Reflections on the 2014 National Mentoring Summit

More than 700 people involved in mentoring programs, research, and support organizations recently connected for an enlightening two days of networking and workshops.  The 2014 National Mentoring Summit provided a unique opportunity for mentoring programs and staff to learn powerful ways to integrate best practices and the latest research into the mentoring field.

Mentoring Works. The theme of the Summit held in Arlington, VA on January 30 and 31 focused on the importance of evidence-based quality mentoring relationships.  The conference’s numerous workshops and plenary sessions reinforced that theme, with distinguished speakers, dynamic panel discussions and various networking opportunities highlighting the evidence that supports the numerous ways in which mentoring works to support positive youth outcomes. Innovation Research & Training Partners with UMass Boston  to Present Course on Mentoring Youth in the Age of Digital Media

DURHAM, NC—Dr. Janis Kupersmidt, president of innovation Research and Training (iRT) has been selected to serve as a panelist for a short course on youth mentoring in the digital age.
Developed by Dr. Jean Rhodes, director of the University of Massachusetts Boston Center for Evidence-Based Mentoring, the course will be held on Wednesday, January 29 in Arlington, VA. Participants are expected from across the country.

President proclaims January as National Mentoring Month

Durham, NC — President Barack Obama has proclaimed January as National Mentoring Month. The annual public awareness campaign, launched in 2002, promotes youth mentoring in the United States. Mentoring Central joins the Harvard School of Public Health, MENTOR, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, United Way Worldwide, and the Corporation for National and Community Service, among others, to celebrate the campaign and help bring awareness to the need for positive adult role models for youth.
