Dr. Stelter Appointed to the MENTOR NC Board of Directors
Durham, NC, May 5, 2021 – innovation Research & Training is pleased to announce Dr. Rebecca Stelter’s appointment to the MENTOR NC Board of Directors.
MENTOR NC is a non-profit organization that is a state affiliate of MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership that is “dedicated to increasing the number of youth in quality mentoring relationships across North Carolina while working to address the systemic barriers that young people face on a daily basis.”
MENTOR NC works primarily in three core areas to advance the local mentoring movement; increasing mentoring program capacity, increasing local engagement, and providing expertise and raising awareness about mentoring. Foundational to the MENTOR NC mission and activities is promoting racial equity and supporting mentoring programs in the work of identifying institutionalized racism within their organizations and communities as well as exploring how race can play a role in mentoring relationships, and how mentoring can be leveraged to advocate for social change.
Dr. Stelter is a Research Scientist II at innovation Research & Training. For over 10 years, she has been dedicated to conducting high-quality mentoring research and supporting mentoring programs at all stages of development. Her most recent projects include federal grants and contracts with the National Institute of Justice, National Institute on Drug Abuse, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as contracts with national mentoring organizations such as MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership; the National Urban League; Girls, Inc.; and the Leadership Foundations.
Specifically, Dr. Stelter was the Principal Investigator on a grant to develop and evaluate Building the Foundation for Mentees and Parents, online programs to prepare children and their parents for being in a mentoring relationship. She was the co-author of numerous evidence-based curricula, including the widely used Preparing for Mentoring online mentor training program. She is a thought leader in mentoring and is a lead author on the Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring, both the 3rd and 4th Editions, as well as recent Supplements to the EEPM on topics such as e-, group, peer, STEM, and workplace mentoring. In addition to her role as a board member of MENTOR NC, Dr. Stelter is a member of the Research Board for the National Mentoring Resource Center, a program funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
